Emma Raising Awareness

Emma Rogan to compete in Brussels Half-Marathon, 6th October 2013

There are more than 2.3 million people in the world living with Multiple Sclerosis. On Sunday 6th October, to raise awareness of the 600,000 people with MS in Europe, Emma Rogan is taking part in the Brussels Half-Marathon.

Emma is Policy and Information Officer for MS Ireland and says, “For the past number of months I have been out running and preparing for the event. I’ve always enjoyed exercise but what has been really motivating me has been the change in my body, having a date and doing the run as part of a team.”

MS Ireland is a member of the European MS Platform, an organisation that represents people with MS in Europe. The EMSP mission is for a better quality of life, equitable treatment and support for people with MS.

The exercise routine is having wider effects on Emma’s life, inspiring her to focus on how it makes a difference to her overall wellbeing. She reflects on the months of training, “It took time to get into the habit of the post-work dash of ‘in the door, change into gear and out to the road’. I’m feeling stronger, more focused than ever before. Amazing how discipline and routine can bring such freedom. What’s more, I know my overall health, as well as my symptoms of MS, have improved. I am already planning my next challenge!”
