Today we are delighted to announce the signing of a new memorandum of understanding to mark World MS Day Wednesday May 25th 2011. MS Ireland and the University of Limerick (UL) will conduct evidence based research into various aspects of MS, and increase understanding among students, health professionals and those with or affected by MS.
Currently collaborative research is taking place across a number of UL departments including, physiotherapy, sports science, electronic and computer engineering. Under this new agreement further research is set to commence within the areas of clinical psychology, adapted physical activity and exercise and fitness.
Product design faculty and students have been involved with MS Ireland to develop products based on the needs of those living with MS and computer engineers at UL have been involved in work on falls and activity monitors, while occupational therapy researchers and students have completed projects on fatigue management.
Anne Winslow, Chief Executive of MS Ireland said at the launch,
"We are delighted to form this new memorandum of understanding with the University of Limerick as we truly believe that the best way to manage MS is to understand it better. The research projects and the sharing of information will deepen our knowledge of MS and help those living with MS or working with people who do, to adopt strategies that reduce or eliminate the challenges often associated with living with MS.”
