Dr Rebecca Maguire

Dr Rebecca Maguire, a chartered psychologist and lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Maynooth University, has been living with MS for over 10 years

After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Psychology, she completed her MA and PhD in Cognitive Science at University College Dublin. Rebecca has been involved in a number of projects examining the quality of life in cancer survivors and their caregivers, and has a particular interest in how cognitive appraisals and representations of health can influence people's wellbeing when coping with a chronic illness.

More recently, influenced by her own diagnosis, Rebecca has begun to investigate how this work may be applied in the context of MS. As such, her current research agenda is oriented towards discovering ways in which the quality of life in people with MS may be enhanced. She is also interested in exploring how best to foster greater PPI (Public and Patient Involvement) in MS research.
