Dr Susan Coote
Dr Susan Coote is a physiotherapist specialising in MS and other neurological conditions.
Following several years’ clinical experience working in the health systems in Ireland and the USA she worked in academia for many years as a teacher, researcher and specialist clinician. Her focus is on the use of exercise and physiotherapy interventions to reduce symptom severity and to improve quality of life for people with MS and other neurological conditions in the community. This programme of work includes large trials of exercise treatments, physical activity promotion and measurement, augmenting exercise with technology and falls prevention in MS.
She is a founding member of the international MS Falls Prevention Research Network, and collaborates with researchers in the UK, Italy, Belgium, Canada and the US. She was the recipient of the UL Excellence in Research (Early Career) award in 2012 and was shortlisted for an Excellence in Teaching award. She leads the MS Research group at UL who have had international success in designing and evaluating novel exercise and physiotherapy interventions for people with moderate to severe disability due to MS in community settings. She currently works in private practice in Limerick.
