As a member of both the Disability Federation of Ireland and Care Alliance, we strongly support their joint call (with several other organisations) for funding for services to be restored before any new tax cuts are introduced in Budget 2015.
The groups highlighted case studies where recent cuts to funding to services have had dramatic consequences for families living with disability. One case study centres on Jane and Eamon from Westmeath. Following Jane's diagnosis with MS their lives have completely changed.
John Dolan, CEO of DFI, said: “As well as learning to live with the physical, mental and emotional symptoms of her condition, the extra expenses are bearing a significant impact on their family life. Almost half of their monthly disposable income is spent on costs incurred through disability alone."
We will continue to provide updates on the progress of this campaign to halt further cuts to services in Bidget 2015.
