Garth says of his own experiences
'Diagnosed w Relapsing Remitting MS in 1996, I discovered Iyengar Yoga while in hospital. With a multitude of symptoms, my doctor recommended yoga — cautioning to avoid overheating — to help manage the condition. Iyengar Yoga can be adapted to suit any practitioner’s ability at whatever level, employing the use of props to achieve and receive the health benefits of various yoga postures (including inversions).
Within a few weeks I felt a difference. A consistent, guided daily practice provided relief from my symptoms (balance, numbness, spasticity, walking, bladder, depression) and increased balance, strength, stamina and confidence. The brain fog cleared, I was thinking clearer again, felt able to reasonably overcome my MS challenges. I found I was able to embrace life and do the things I thought were forever lost. The emotional and psychological impact was as profound as the physical and offered a positive outlook to the future ahead. 20 years later, I am symptom free, and follow the path of balancing courage and caution daily. Inspired to help others with MS, I became a teacher of the subject'.
