"My name is Kelly, I'm 41 and diagnosed with RRMS 11 years ago this year. At first, I was scared. Why me ? What’s going to happen to me?
Having MS changed my life so much, at the time I'd just completed my level 5 in childcare and I was working, but unfortunately, my MS had other plans. Now I feel fatigued doing a simple task amongst other symptoms every day.
I live with my partner & carer Stewart, son Jordan & our fur baby Harley. I'm originally from London but moved to Ireland 21 years ago this year.
I've taken part in online mindfulness mediation classes and yoga classes that MS Ireland put on throughout the pandemic, which I have found really useful!
I have signed up for the 3,000 Crunches in March Challenge. Being immune suppressed, I still have to be careful if going anywhere, and to be honest, since Covid my mental and physical health has been affected, so this challenge will keep me moving and raising awareness and funds for MS Ireland and it is my own way of thanking them for all their online classes that have helped.
I signed up last year as it was my 10th anniversary living with MS and wanted to do something to raise awareness and fundraise for MS Ireland and this was my opportunity. I found the challenge very tough, as most days I'd do my crunches then have to rest. Some days I thought I would never make it but with the encouragement of my family, friends and the Facebook group, I kept going! I don’t know how I did it, but I managed to complete the 3,000, it was such a brilliant challenge to be involved in.
My advice to anyone who is living with MS or who has recently been diagnosed would be to try and stay strong!! Make sure you have a great support system, your family, friends and your local MS group. Being honest, you really find out, in life, who is there for you. It may have taken my ability to work away, but I will try to keep going out for walks, keep your mind busy with a hobby and always be gentle on yourself!"
Kelly took part in last year's 3,000 Crunch Challenge and has once again signed up for this year's campaign.
