At present in Ireland medicinal cannabis can only be accessed in circumstances where a license has been granted in respect of an individual. The Irish Government recently announced that Sativex has been recommended for reimbursement under the Medical Cannabis Access Program, which allows cannabis based medical products to be prescribed for certain medical conditions where the patient has failed to respond to standard treatments.
Our host Trevis L Gleason will be discussing with Eric Downer, Associate Professor in Human Health and Disease in Trinity and Dr James Bowen, Director at the Multiple Sclerosis Center at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle about the use and effects of cannabinoids for people with Multiple Sclerosis including which chemicals may (or may not) be useful in natural cannabis, to synthesized medications and CBD therapies.
Most importantly, we'll focus on the science behind these treatments, its benefits, and also the risks. Strict legislations are in place in some jurisdictions, while others have medical use provisions (as well as recreational use laws), so we'll also keep the legal ramifications of cannabis use in mind during our discussions.
