New Research Projects Funded

Progressive MS Alliance awards 22 research grants to develop treatments for progressive MS

The Progressive MS Alliance has announced its first round of 22 research grants to investigators in nine countries. More than 22 million euros has been made available to fund the Alliance over the next five years.

MS societies in the UK, USA, Canada, Italy, Australia and the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF), with additional support from MS societies in Denmark and Spain, to collectively form the ‘Progressive MS Alliance’, and make funding new research a reality.

The global funding will speed up research into progressive MS research, as scientists will be able to share knowledge and expertise, and will avoid duplicating work.

Priority areas

The Alliance has agreed four priority areas, on which research will be focused:

  1. Better understand progression so we can identify new treatments that can help
  2. Design shorter, faster trials to reduce the time taken for new treatments to be approved
  3. Conduct trials to test potential drugs and treatments
  4. Develop and evaluate new therapies to manage symptoms
