International experts on physical activity in MS are set to descend on Ireland next month as Rehabilitation in Multiple Sclerosis (RIMS), the European network for best practice and research in the rehabilitation of MS, hosts a conference here.
The two-day event, which takes place on Friday and Saturday, 7th and 8th June, will cover a range of topics as it looks at changes in mobility and exercise participation. MS Ireland will be interviewing many of the speakers and making available as much reader – friendly information as possible.
Areas to be discussed include exercise, education and the psychology viewpoint relating to exercise and physical activity for people with MS.
Rehabilitation physicians, physiotherapists, sports scientists, MS clinicians and researchers will attend. The event aims to share the latest knowledge and information around physical activity in MS so that the participants can build on the research to date.
RIMS is hosting the event alongside SIG Mobility and Education, and has chosen University of Limerick (UL) as the setting.
This is the first time a RIMS meeting has taken place in Ireland. Dr Susan Coote, Board Member of MS Ireland and lecturer in physiotherapy at UL, is the local organiser of the event.
“We hope to have a broad range of speakers from across Europe presenting the latest research and its application to practice. We hope that everyone in attendance will use this information to develop interventions for people with MS based on the latest scientific evidence.”
She added that the event was very timely for the research team at UL as the team builds on the next stage of Getting the Balance Right, MS Irelands national physiotherapy and exercise programme.
