Wellness and Symptoms Management

MS Ireland offers programmes that aim to improve the overall well-being of people with MS. These programmes are facilitated by a combination of MS Ireland staff, external contractors, volunteers and partner organisations (such as the HSE and Education and Training Boards (ETB)). They aim to improve overall well-being by providing up to date information, encouraging peer engagement and support and providing opportunities to improve symptom management. These programmes include the following:

Information Sessions

Information sessions facilitated by appropriately qualified health professionals are provided to People with MS. In these sessions up-to-date information that is themed around a particular health topic is communicated using both in person and online group formats. Examples include, but are not limited to, newly diagnosed events, pregnancy and MS, managing fatigue, use of assistive technologies and managing symptoms of continence. If you are interested in attending something locally, check out events happening in your region: https://www.ms-society.ie/events

Symptom Management Programmes

Evidence-based programmes are provided where People with MS are encouraged, in a peer group setting, to reflect and increase their capacity to better manage symptoms. Some programmes are directly facilitated by MS Ireland staff and others are conducted in partnership with other agencies. If you are interested in attending something locally, check out events happening in your region: https://www.ms-society.ie/events

  • FACETS (Fatigue: Applying Cognitive behavioural and Energy effectiveness Techniques to lifestyle) is a 6 week evidence-based group fatigue management programme run online or in-person specifically for People with MS. The service is offered online nationally 3 times per year and also in regions where staff capacity allows. Each programme is facilitated by two MS Ireland Regional Community Workers. Read more about our FACETS programme: https://www.ms-society.ie/fatigue-management-programmes
  • Cognitive programmes are run with input and in partnership with other agencies in select regions e.g., Rehab Care.
  • MS Ireland works with other agencies to support provision of other evidence-based programmes that benefit the MS community (e.g., ‘Living Well’ a cross condition self-management programme run by the HSE).
