You may remember we posted about our support for the European Multiple Sclerosis Platform's (EMSP) Written Declaration on Neurodegenerative Diseases in the Workplace (NDDs). The aim was to highlight the issues facing people with NDDs like multiple sclerosis.
MS Ireland pledged to contact all Irish Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and we would like to acknowledge the following politicians who signed the declaration: Gay Mitchell, Nessa Childers, Jim Higgins, Marian Harkin, Seán Kelly and Emer Costello.
Unfortunately, however, while the declaration manage to gather 161 signatures from MEPs this was not enough for it to become an official position of the European Parliament in the context of a very crowded public agenda leading up to the European elections in May.
It's a dissppointing outcome but we, like EMSP, believe that this was another useful opportunity to highlight the challenges faced by people with MS, particularly in the workplace.
