Last week, President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, honoured the recipients of the 'Science Foundation Ireland President of Ireland Future Research Leaders Award' at a special ceremony in Áras an Uachtaráin in Dublin. Five awards, representing a €7 million investment, will also support the additional recruitment of 15 research positions. Research supported by the awards will examine novel drug targeting for the treatment of various diseases.
MS Ireland are delighted to announce that we have awarded the 2017 Dean Medal Travel Bursary to Sravanthi Bandla of NUI Galway.
Irish life sciences company, Genomics Medicine Ireland (GMI) have announced an important scientific research study aimed at unlocking the mystery of the genetic and lifestyle factors that contribute to MS. Volunteers with MS currently being treated at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Tallaght Hospital, Cork University Hospital or Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry are invited to participate in the study which aims to identify these factors in order to find better treatments, diagnoses and, ultimately, a cure for MS. GMI also hopes to rollout additional study sites around the country in future.
New international research published into treatment expectations of people with MS
Many people with multiple sclerosis experience falls, which can have significant consequences for the individual. The MS Research Team at the University of Limerick, led by Professor Susan Coote, have developed a falls prevention programme for people with multiple sclerosis and would like to assess how suitable and effective the programme is.
